- BRIEF BIO -
My name is Justin Kim, sometimes known as Justinrhyme. I'm a DJ & A/V professional with over 10 years of event production experience to include DJing and VJing at clubs, lounges, weddings, social gatherings and corporate functions. I specialize in "mashups", blending hits from various musical genres and eras together into a fluid, dance-friendly mix for all generations to enjoy. My primary genres include pop, hiphop, house, dance, jazz, and funk music. I can also perform a special Korean pop music dance set upon request, which has been a huge hit at Korean weddings and parties.
- MUSICAL ROOTS & INFLUENCES -
Being a Korean kid raised in Philly during the 80s, I grew up listening to everything from Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder, Duran Duran and the Police, Erasure and Depeche Mode. Eventually I got schooled in a little hiphop, first with Run DMC and the Beasties, and then Tribe, Snoop, Wu, Biggie, and the rest of the usual suspects as they came up on the scene. As a kid, I was making mixtapes with a My First Sony tape recorder. After buying my first turntables in the mid 90s, I've been hooked on DJ-ing ever since.
In college, I got into Korean music just as it was starting to blow up - DJ DOC, Turbo, H.O.T., Young Turks Club, Seo Taiji Boys, and Kim Gun Mo were getting popular, and at Asian parties I would throw them into the mix along side the latest hits, and even some New Order and Alphaville for those "special moments". It was a killer blend of East meets West that was always a huge hit with the Korean-American kids. Even non-Koreans could get down to DJ DOC.
- MIXING STYLE -
Now, with all this great music and super futuristic technology at my disposal, I'm able to blend everything together into a seamless, comprehensive mix that takes the audience on a musical journey through their favorite musical eras, from disco to hiphop. My mixes might typically include everything from Marvin Gaye to Rihanna, Jay-Z, Sugar Hill Gang, Prince, Daft Punk, U2, and of course, the King of Pop (R.I.P.!). Whatever sounds good and gets the party moving is my priority. For weddings and special events, I can mix in special songs submitted in advance on a USB thumbdrive. For Korean-American weddings, I can throw in some traditional songs or more recent Korean tracks as well.
The main point is, I can cater specifically to your needs, and we can figure out together what kind of music fits your crowd best after a brief conversation.
